John J. Uicker, Jr., is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin -- Madison. His teaching and research interests include solid geometric modeling, modeling of mechanical motion, and their application to computer-aided design and manufacture. Professor Uicker is one of the founding members of the U.S. Council for the Theory of Machines and Mechanisms Gordon R. Pennock is Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. He is a recipient of the Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award, 1986, from the Society of Automotive Engineers. His research interests include theoretical kinematics and the dynamics of mechanical motion. Professor Pennock is the Student Section Advisor of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers at Purdue University and a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers The late Joseph E. Shigley was Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan and a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He held the Mechanisms Committee Award, the Worcester Reed Warner Medal, and the Machine Design Award. Professor Shigley authored eight booksJohn J.
